What is Thoracic Ultrasound?
Expertise in thoracic ultrasound has become imperative in the bedside management of pleural diseases. It is a less invasive and more practical way to help patients with many of these diseases.
As a safe, accurate, and radiation-free imaging technique, thoracic ultrasound allows respiratory physicians to assess pleural effusions, pleural thickening, pneumothorax, lung consolidation, and other chest abnormalities in real time. It plays an important role in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of pleural diseases while improving clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.
At Respiratory Sleep Disorder Centre (RSDC), thoracic ultrasound is performed by experienced respiratory physicians using advanced ultrasound technology. Depending on your symptoms, it may be combined with Lung Function Testing or Bronchoscopy to provide a comprehensive respiratory assessment. Patients with suspected pleural disease may also benefit from our Pleural Diseases service or consultation with one of our experienced Respiratory Specialists.
